Punalu’u Beach is one of the most famous Black sand beaches in Hawaii. There are underwater freshwater springs there and you can experience two different temperatures in the water. Bring water shoes if you can because the black sand gets pretty hot there. Also the rocks in the water might hurt your feet too. You will probably see turtles feeding in the water or sun bathing. Da BEST!
The easiest way to get to Punalu’u Beach is to drive. To get to Punalu’u Black Sand Beach from Hilo or Kona, take the Hawaii Belt Road (Route 11) south. Then turn off onto Ninole Loop Road, which is also the entrance for the Sea Mountain Resort. There is a car park right by the beach.
