Outrigger Canoe Tour

For thousands of years Hawaiian have used outriggers to fish and catch food.
Learn the basics of what it feels like to outrigger and learn about Hawaiian history and folklore.

The double hull canoe — Wa’a kaulua — is a sacred Hawaiian tradition. What was the first thing that touched land before man on the Hawaiian islands? A canoe.

The modern double hull canoes are shaped like their ancestors and are two canoe hulls that are connected and supported by crossbeams — called ‘iako — with a deck that create stability. They can be sailed or have a motor, but at Anelakai Adventures we paddle them around Keauhou Bay. You, our next guests, are our motors!

Why? One of the best ways to experience the Big Island is in an eco friendly, non invasive, sustainable manner, from the ocean. In a double hull canoe, you can explore the Kona Coast and the Pacific Ocean the way our ancestors did and not leave a trace or a footprint behind.

Have the opportunity to see dolphins, fish and the majestic green sea turtle in our 24-foot, 6-seater canoes. Book a tour with a group of your own, or meet other couples and enjoy a Hawaiian double hull canoe together. Our guides make the experience safe and easy, and all you have to do is help paddle and enjoy the ride.

On each personalized, guided double hull canoe adventure, you’ll learn local Hawaiian history and practice ocean awareness… But most of all a canoe tour with us is about having fun and creating memories that will stay with you forever.
